Weekend Wrap Up

26 Mar

The commutes have been amazing as of late.

Where else would a truck like this is the city be from.

A few cockpit changes for the roadie. Also picked up new cables housing to get the bike ready for the season.

Few beers and such friday night.

Cats like to inspect my panniers for some reason.

Total wine: never seen this beer before. Also didnt buy it.

Was able to get out for an hour Sunday with a couple buddies to try out the new bars/stem on the giant.

Guess NJ has Full Sail now? They didnt have any sessions, maybe they will before summer time hits.

This and that

22 Mar

The weather has been wild lately. jersey/bibs in March, I still cant get over it. 70F+ and sunny means one thing, chips, salsa, and margaritas.

Random shots throughout the week.

Did see the Google maps car out in west philly. I remember when they use to be random clunkers, but looks like Subaru’s on board these days.

Met up with a couple buddies on the ride home last night to get a lap or two in around fairmount. Good talking pace with a couple hill repeats.

Extremely foggy this morning and it never broke. Glad the roads were dead in the early morn.

Weekend Wrap Up

19 Mar

Ahh busy weekened for sure with the start of the road race season. I got talked into joining a team for the Philly Phlyer team time trial (TTT). Ive never done a TT before but it was riding distance from our place so I felt I really should. The Philly Phlyer race weekend is mostly collegiate races with a couple USAC open races. It starts off with a TTT saturday morning with a road race saturday afyternoon, and finishes with a crit on Temple’s campus. My real goal was to race not get shelled too too fast in the mens 3/4 road race later in the day.

My two teammates both had slick TT bikes which i learned wernt so easy to draft off of.

A teammate brought my new kit as well. Really liking the 2012 kit design so far.

Living a bits from some of your teammates mean you dont have much to any time riding with them. We took half an hour to warm up together and get a sense of how our rotations would go.

We did alright but for an open field but as always you wish you could dug a little deeper and moved up a spot or two. Oh well.

I was having some drive train issues and as I was heading home i snapped my chain. My fault for not using Shimano’s new special self aligning pins. I learned my lesson. By the time I got home and got the bike back running it was too late to eat then get back out there for the RR. Instead the lady and I rode to Rittenhouse to do some people watching and enjoy the weather.

After dinner we went out to grab a couple drinks. Tried to stay away from the ‘irish’ folk but thats impossible. Did end up having to take some green shot though… but other than that I kept myself hydrated with a coconut water as there was another race in the morning.

Woke up Sunday morning and had a teammate pick me up for the South Jersey Spring Series #2  cat4/5 crit.  It was cool and a bit foggy.

Even got some choice cake afterwards for Jamies birthday.

My teammate’s video up from the race (last couple last at 5:00):

Went to enjoy some beer and arcades games later that day.

Love me some tapper for sure.  So so good.

15 Mar

Its been hard/awkward trying to get use to waking up in the dark to go to work, but at least its been 40F+ every morning. The added benefit getting to see the sunrise everyday.

Actually had a Peak Organic beer that I enjoyed (Oak Aged Mocha Stout) this week. Our local hangout had a barrel aged beer thingy this weekend and we were trying to take in some of the leftovers.

Bit hard to tell but there was an engine in the back of this car that must have broken out the back window when they stopped suddenly or something.

Upstairs neighbor cat, bam!

Weekend Wrap Up

12 Mar

The bodys been a little achy since the crash so I wanted to get some recovery time in off the bike. We decided to head up to NYC for the day and walk around. Usually we take the Chinatown bus up but some friends were driving up to race in Monster Track 13, a large brakeless/fixed alley cat race that starts in Brooklyn.

Once we go to Brooklyn we went in search of brunch.

The bathroom at the restaurant… I sometimes forget how small things are up there.

We then walked down to Prospect Park to take in the nice weather

Saw some makeshift bar mits.

Game plan was to hang out there for a bit then walk into Manhattan. We didnt make it far before beer was consumed at Bierkraft. It was a very interesting setup. You walk in and there were refrigerators on both sides with bottles spanning from local microbrews to belgium lambics with a wall at the end with 10 or so drafts. After the beer section they had a sandwich shop with seating inside and out back on their patio. We grabbed some drafts and went out back.

Then we got hungry again and stopped off at ‘Snice for a quick snack.

Finally made it to the Brooklyn bridge. Its always packed with tourists and the entire way I was glad i didnt have to deal with this bridge on my commute. I dont think I could do it with all the pedestrians taking photos and the cat6 racing!

We walked down to battery park and took in the sunset.  Statue of liberty in the background.

Met up with a friend for a bit then cruised to dinner which ended up being pretty terrible.  Lckily Lauren went to get ice cream and Lulas and we hustled to catch the last chinatown bus for the night.

They moved locations so it took us a bit of time to find but once on we hunkered down and fell asleep till Camden.

Next day was lounging but at the store i did see these.  Why is there so much St. Patrick’s day stuff going on before the day??

9 Mar

Few random photos from the week. Got in a slew of products so I can BULK up. I think that whats cyclist do, right?

Also my favorite wheels I saw during the week of commuting.

Ridding home yesterday in a jersey and bibs… 70F at the beginning of March is nuts. Had a great tail wind heading from work as well which helped the cause.

All was going well until a pedestrian tried to run between cars back from the cross walk when we had gotten the green. 20+mph had me over the OTB and sliding on my shoulder/elbow/hip. Bike seems to be in pretty good shape though. My shoulder and hip hurt on the commute in this morning but nothing too bad. My new iPhone on the other hand now has a nice curvature to it…

Needed a pick-me-up so cracked a Belgium pale ale with dinner. It helped the cause. Cant wait for the weekend.

Weekend Wrap Up

5 Mar

It was a pretty lazy weekend for me. Worked on bikes most of the weekend. Swapping tires and cassettes around, cleaning bits and pieces, re-greasing hubs, drinking beer.

Was a bit more ambitious Sunday and cruised out to Conshohocken for a ~40mi loop. Its always interesting to see outher peoples routes. Plus the houses/scenery out there are amazing.

Coming home we jumped on the SRT and decided to check out the new and improved toe path.  I hadn’t taken this route in months but we wanted to check out the work that they just finished up doing. The trail now is a crushed limestone with paved sections leading up to and following the new bridges. They did an amazing job.

Afterwards we stopped off for a post ride beer. Jeff wanted to try Piccolo Birrificio Seson, an  Italian Saison that was on his short list of beers to try. I cant say I wasn’t overwhelmed by the beer, a bit more carbonated than I was expecting, and being that Im no beer geek, I wasn’t able to pick up many of the aged characteristics. Anyways it was a great way to end a ride… warming back up to ride home on the other hand wasnt.
